Instructions on obtaining a thesis assignment and preparing the graduate thesis

For the academic year 2025/2026, the Committee for Final and Graduate Theses will hold its meetings according to the following schedule:

  1. 11 November 2025
  2. 10 February 2026
  3. 14 April 2026
  4. 19 May 2026 (topics returned for revision)

Application for graduate thesis topics

Graduate thesis topics may be submitted by all students who have enrolled in the graduate thesis throughout the academic year (additional Committee meetings will be organized if needed).

Note: The title of the graduate thesis topic is defined by the student in agreement with the mentor.

Students are required to send the Request for Access to Graduate Thesis Preparation and the Appendix to the Graduate Thesis Application, signed by the mentor, to referada@fpz.unizg.hr for the Committee meeting in:

  • November 2025 by 28 October 2025 at 13:00
  • February 2026 by 27 January 2026 at 13:00
  • April 2026 by 31 March 2026 at 13:00
  • May 2026 by 5 May 2026 at 13:00

Important: When sending the Request for Access to Graduate Thesis Preparation and its Appendix, the student must include the mentor’s email address in cc, and the attachment filenames must be defined as follows:

The procedure for selecting a topic, applying for it, obtaining the thesis assignment, and preparing the graduate thesis is explained in detail in the Instructions for the Registration, Preparation and Defense of Final and Graduate Theses (available on the Faculty website under Students/Graduate Thesis). The application procedure through ISVU Studomat is described in detail in the instructions published via the Merlin system.

Schedule of graduate thesis defense dates for all study programmes

For the period from November 2025 to September 2026:

  1. 25 November 2025
  2. 10 March 2026
  3. 5 May 2026
  4. 2 June 2026
  5. 14 July 2026
  6. 1 September 2026
  7. 23, 24 and 25 September 2026

Important: A student may register a graduate thesis for a defense date only after at least 40 working days have passed since the Committee meeting for Final and Graduate Theses at which the topic was accepted.

Students are required to send the final version of the thesis and the Confirmation in electronic form (PDF format, named for the thesis as “studentJMBAG.pdf” and for the Confirmation as “confirmation_studentJMBAG.pdf”) to referadaiknjiznica@fpz.unizg.hr, with the mentor’s email address in cc (from the official Faculty email address, for example studentJMBAG@fpz.hr), no later than eight (8) days before the defense date.

Important: In order to meet all obligations for completing the study programme and to prepare and submit the graduate thesis correctly, students must complete every application, preparation, and submission step in accordance with the Instructions for the Registration, Preparation and Defense of Final and Graduate Theses. The recommendation of the Committee for Final and Graduate Theses is that a graduate thesis prepared in line with the Instructions should be sent to the mentor by email for review no later than 30 working days before the defense date the candidate plans to attend.

Before sending the final version of the thesis and the Confirmation to referadaiknjiznica@fpz.unizg.hr, with the mentor’s email address in cc (from the official Faculty email address, for example studentJMBAG@fpz.hr), students must return all library materials borrowed from the Library of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.

Documents

All forms must be completed on a computer. If a student is writing and defending the graduate thesis in English, the corresponding forms must also be completed in English.
