History
The Library of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences is a specialized library dedicated to the field of transport and traffic in the Republic of Croatia. It serves as an indispensable source of information for both transport science and professional practice.
The Library has been operating since 1984. It moved to new premises in 1998, when the process of computerizing its library collection began, and again in 2010, after which it adopted the modern ALEPH integrated library system in cooperation with the National and University Library in Zagreb. At the beginning of 2026, the Library migrated to the Bukinet system (Alma/Primo VE), the shared platform used by Croatian higher education and research libraries.
Today, the Library holds more than 9,000 book copies and approximately 300 titles of Croatian and international journals, comprising more than 10,000 individual issues.
Catalogue
Books, master’s theses and doctoral dissertations can be searched through the online catalogue available at Bukinet.

Membership
Membership and the use of library materials are free of charge. All full-time and part-time students of the Faculty, as well as other interested citizens, may join.
Before the first borrowing, users must register by presenting an identity card and student card. After registration, the student card is used as the membership card. At the end of the academic year, and before enrolment in the next one, the Library checks whether the student has returned all borrowed material and informs Student Services accordingly.
Borrowing rules
Users may borrow up to 3 books for one month. The loan can then be extended twice for another month, in person or by telephone. It is not necessary to bring the book when requesting an extension.
Exceptions are books from the aeronautics collection, which can be borrowed for seven days with two renewals, and textbooks, which may be borrowed for one day when all regular copies are already on loan. The reference collection and thesis works cannot be borrowed, but they may be consulted in the Library and photocopied. Journals are lent to students for one week if one personal document is left at the Library.
Use of computers
There are 5 computers available in the Library that students may freely use for studying, work and everyday tasks. Students may also use the computers in the adjacent PC classroom/reading room whenever no teaching is taking place there.
Photocopying
The Library offers a self-service photocopying machine. Users first load credit to their account, which is then reduced during copying. Photocopying is charged EUR 0.04 per A4 page in black and white and EUR 0.27 per A4 page in colour.

Catalogue search
The online catalogue of the Library of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences allows both basic and advanced searching by title, author, subject heading, UDC number, keyword, publisher, ISBN and record identifier.
Basic search is sufficient when you know a title, author or any relevant word. Advanced search is useful when there are multiple editions or when you need a narrower set of results.
Checking material availability
By opening the “Location/Call number” link in the results list, or “Location” in the bibliographic record itself, users can see every copy of a title together with information on whether it is available, borrowed or restricted to reading-room use.
Status indicators make it clear whether a title can be borrowed for a month, a week, one working day or only consulted on site.
Item status
The item status screen shows whether the book is on the shelf, checked out until a specific date or assigned to a special collection. This makes it easy to see whether the copy can be borrowed for a month, for one day or only consulted in the reading room.
Online sources and databases
The Library also supports students through a set of open-access and subscribed electronic sources, including Croatian journal portals, transport databases and the Faculty repository.
Hrčak
Hrčak brings together almost 500 Croatian scientific and professional journals that provide open access to full articles or, at minimum, bibliographic data and abstracts.
PROMET - Traffic&Transportation
The Faculty scientific journal publishes papers in transport and traffic technology. The archive contains issues from 1990 to the present day.
TRID and electronic resources portal
TRID is the largest database for transport sciences, while the national electronic resources portal provides access to many databases through national or university subscriptions.
Union catalogue and Faculty repository
The Croatian national union catalogue aggregates library holdings from the science and higher education system, while the Faculty repository provides access to final, graduate and doctoral theses produced at the Faculty.
Citing literature
There are several ways of citing literature; the choice depends on the conventions of the field covered by the paper. The key rule is consistency: choose one style and apply it throughout the whole text.
Citation matters because it demonstrates familiarity with the topic, prevents plagiarism, enables fact-checking and helps readers find the original source.
APA style
In-text: The total aircraft weight consists of the empty aircraft weight, payload, fuel and reserve fuel. (Pavlin, 2006)
Bibliography: Pavlin, S. (2006). Aerodromi I. Zagreb: Fakultet prometnih znanosti.
Harvard style
In-text: The total aircraft weight consists of the empty aircraft weight, payload, fuel and reserve fuel. (Pavlin 2006)
Bibliography: Pavlin, S 2006, Aerodromi I, Fakultet prometnih znanosti, Zagreb.
Chicago style
In-text: The total aircraft weight consists of the empty aircraft weight, payload, fuel and reserve fuel.1
1 Stanislav Pavlin, Aerodromi I (Zagreb: Fakultet prometnih znanosti, 2006)
Bibliography: Pavlin, Stanislav. Aerodromi I. Zagreb: Fakultet prometnih znanosti, 2006.
Vancouver style
In-text: The total aircraft weight consists of the empty aircraft weight, payload, fuel and reserve fuel. [1]
Bibliography: [1] Pavlin S. Aerodromi I. Zagreb: Fakultet prometnih znanosti; 2006.
For books, journal articles, theses and web sources, it is recommended to follow the standard Vancouver structure with consistent author, title, place of publication, publisher, year and access details where relevant.
Automatic citation generation
References should generally be prepared manually, but some web services can speed up the process. In some cases, entering a book ISBN is enough for the service to retrieve the metadata from a database such as WorldCat.
If the ISBN is not available, the offered fields can be completed manually. These tools usually follow English-language capitalization rules, so the generated output should still be reviewed and edited.
For teachers
Predatory publishers and journals
In recent years, predatory publishers have increasingly targeted researchers by charging authors to publish papers without a real peer-review process. This undermines the quality of available information and often leaves the author with a publication that is not indexed in major databases and has no legitimate impact factor.
Beall's List archive
The archived Beall’s List remains a useful starting point for checking journals and publishers that have been flagged for predatory behaviour. Each result should still be verified against current indexing and editorial information.
Think. Check. Submit.
This initiative offers a concise checklist for assessing whether a journal or publisher is trustworthy before submitting a manuscript, with a focus on transparency, peer review, editorial boards and indexing.
OpenAlex
OpenAlex can help verify whether a journal or publisher is indexed and how it connects to broader research outputs, which is useful when checking visibility and legitimacy.
