Railway transport represents one of the most important forms of sustainable mobility, with a key role in connecting cities, regions and international corridors. The programme trains students for work in a technically, operationally and safety-critical environment.
Description
The Railway Transport module is directed toward technology, organization and safety of the railway system. Through the programme, fundamental knowledge required for work in modern railway organizations and traffic management systems is acquired.
The programme combines technical, operational and information content that prepares students for participation in development of effective, safe and sustainable railway transport in the Republic of Croatia and the European Union.
About the Programme
The programme provides comprehensive knowledge of railway infrastructure, vehicles, signalling and safety systems, organization of train operations, shunting work and contemporary management technologies. Special emphasis is placed on safety, interoperability and integration of railways into multimodal transport systems.
Upon completion of the programme, students are trained for operational and professional work in railway companies, regulatory bodies, infrastructure companies, logistics centres and companies engaged in maintenance, design and planning of railway systems.

Curriculum
The curriculum provides systematic coverage of railway technology, infrastructure, vehicles, signalling and safety systems, operational organization, shunting procedures and contemporary management tools. Theory is balanced with practical applications, laboratory exercises and real operational experience.
Core courses cover railway vehicles, railway infrastructure systems, traffic signalling, traffic organization, shunting technology, train motion and dynamics, traffic planning and management, rail freight transport, technical infrastructure design, and passenger transport operations.
Electives include modern traffic management systems, reverse logistics, cost-benefit analysis, urban rail systems, railway transport safety, marketing in transport, intelligent passenger information systems, multimodal hubs, smart city applications and autonomous mobility.
The final thesis addresses infrastructure, vehicles, operations, signalling, safety or logistics processes in railway transport. Students demonstrate independent analysis through practical research and formal technical assessment.
