Transfer from other university study programmes to the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences
Transfer to the Faculty’s undergraduate study programmes is possible only from university study programmes that include the relevant disciplinary background, depending on the study programme or specialisation to which the student wishes to transfer.
The number of transfer students is limited by the Faculty’s capacity. Students transferring to an undergraduate study programme pay the maximum participation fee in the year of transfer, while in subsequent academic years the calculation model is the same as for all other students and is applied in accordance with the current participation-fee rules.
A student whose transfer to the Faculty is approved is credited with the relevant years of study completed at another faculty. Examinations passed elsewhere are recognised for those courses whose syllabi correspond to the syllabi of the respective courses at the Faculty.
Transfers may be completed only during the regular enrolment period for the academic year, in September. Transfer requests are submitted to the Faculty’s Student Services Office from mid-July until the end of August.
The Committee for Teaching, E-learning and Students decides on the student’s request for transfer. In the decision approving the transfer, the Committee, after consulting the course lecturer, determines which examinations passed at other faculties will be recognised and approves enrolment. At least 35 ECTS credits must be recognised for transfer into the second year of undergraduate study.
When submitting a transfer request, a student transferring from another faculty must attach:
- an official certificate issued by the faculty from which the student wishes to transfer, indicating the certified years of study, information on passed examinations, any ongoing disciplinary proceedings, and the year into which the student could enrol at the Faculty in view of the obligations fulfilled to date
- a certified curriculum and syllabus for the courses passed at the faculty from which the student is transferring
A student who does not meet the conditions for enrolment in the next year of study is enrolled in the year in which the student was previously registered.
A student who changes the study programme after the first year, except within the Faculty’s own study programmes, and who has not obtained the right to enrol in the second year may enrol in one of the Faculty’s study programmes only through the regular admission procedure. Examinations passed in the previous programme may be recognised in the new programme if their scope and content correspond to the curriculum being studied.
As an exception, a transfer may be approved for students who do not meet the general conditions if the transfer is required because of serious illness, family relocation, training obligations of elite athletes, or another justified reason.
A transfer student must complete enrolment by the end of the enrolment period or within eight days of receiving the transfer decision.
Transfers between study programmes or specialisations within the Faculty
During undergraduate study, a student may transfer only once from one study programme or specialisation to another. Such a transfer is possible only during enrolment in the academic year, and requests must be submitted to the Faculty’s Student Services Office from mid-July until the end of August.
Such transfers are approved by the Committee for Teaching, E-learning and Students upon the student’s request and with the consent of the head of study or the head of department responsible for the study programme or specialisation to which the student is transferring.
In connection with the request, the head of study or the head of department responsible for the target study programme or specialisation determines the necessary differential requirements between the study programme or specialisation in which the student was enrolled and the one the student wishes to join.
A student transferring to one of the Faculty’s study programmes or changing specialisation is enrolled in the year of study for which the student has fulfilled the requirements in the programme or specialisation from which the transfer is made. In that year, the student must also enrol in all course differences between the previous programme or specialisation and the one being entered.
The student submits the completed Request Form and payment slip to the Faculty’s Student Services Office, and the administrative costs of the decision are determined by the Faculty’s Schedule of Fees.
Suspension of student rights and obligations
What is the suspension of student rights and obligations?
The suspension of rights and obligations is a period during which a student temporarily does not fulfil study obligations for justified reasons, while the time limit for completing the study programme is extended by the duration of the suspension.
In which situations is a student entitled to suspension?
A student is entitled to suspension of rights and obligations in the following situations:
- during the fulfilment of non-active military service obligations
- during pregnancy
- if the student is a father or the student is a mother, until the child reaches one year of age
- during maternity or parental leave
- in the event of illness or another comparable reason lasting longer than three months continuously
- during an international exchange lasting longer than 30 days during the teaching period, if the student does not earn ECTS credits through the exchange
- for categorised athletes because of justified sporting commitments
- in other justified cases decided individually
Can suspension be approved for one semester or for the whole academic year?
Yes. A student may be granted suspension for one semester or for the whole academic year, depending on the duration of the impediment to fulfilling study obligations and the justified reason.
Does suspension affect the deadline for completing the study programme?
Yes. In the case of approved suspension, the deadline for completing the study programme is extended by the period for which the suspension lasted.
How and when is a request for suspension submitted?
The student must:
- submit the request within 15 days of the occurrence of the reason for suspension
- submit a written request
- attach the relevant supporting documentation
The request is submitted to Student Services.
Who decides whether suspension will be approved?
The Vice Dean responsible for teaching and students decides whether the reason is justified.
If the request is approved, the Vice Dean issues the decision on suspension. If the request is rejected, the Dean issues the decision rejecting the request.
How long may suspension last?
Suspension may last:
- from one semester
- up to one academic year
The duration is always stated explicitly in the decision.
Are there any exceptions to the deadline for submitting a request?
Yes. In the case of pregnancy, a student may subsequently request suspension even if the 15-day deadline was not met.
Which documentation is used to prove the right to suspension?
The existence of a justified reason is proved by credible documentation, for example:
- a medical certificate confirming illness
- a decision of the competent authority on maternity or parental leave
- other official documents, depending on the reason
Must a student be enrolled in the academic year in order to exercise the right to suspension?
Yes. A student must be enrolled in the current academic year in order to exercise the right to suspension of rights and obligations.
May a student sit examinations during suspension?
Yes, but with limitations. During suspension the student:
- may sit examinations and other knowledge assessments if the required conditions have been met
- may not attend classes
- may not fulfil the conditions for taking examinations in courses belonging to the semester or year for which the suspension has been granted
Does a student retain student-standard rights during suspension?
No, with one exception. During suspension the student:
- does not exercise rights arising from the student standard
- retains the right to health insurance, in accordance with the applicable regulations
What happens if the study programme changes during suspension?
If the study programme changes during suspension, the student must:
- attend and pass the resulting differences in the programme
- in order to continue the study programme under the valid curriculum
